Countdown to Air Conditioning

Well, we've almost made it. I made a goal to not run the air conditioning until July. Dylan calls me crazy whenever we talk about it. I am just trying to save a little money. I also think it's pretty darn cool that we can live in a place where we really can go with running the A/C for only two months out of the year.

It really hasn't been hard except for the last week or so. The nights and mornings are really nice with the windows open, but the afternoons & evenings have been pretty warm. So starting tomorrow, if we feel like it, we can turn the air on. And, I think we will. I have just been zonked of my energy in the afternoons & I'm blaming it on the heat.

The first year that we lived here we didn't even have an A/C unit in this apartment....and we survived that summer. I remember it sucked though, especially because I was pregnant with Sadie. They put the A/C in the end of August that year & I had Sadie just a few weeks later.

So....looking forward to some cooler days ahead. Inside at least.

Summer Albums

These are the albums we've been listening to quite a bit so far this summer:

The Oranges Band The World & Everything in It
Very summery. Just look at the album cover. No really. A good little album. One that may not hit you the first time you listen to it. But after listening a few more times, I fell in love. Dylan too.

Langhorne Slim When the Sun's Gone Down
Okay. This one just kicks. A twangy, folky, bluegrassy banjo....with some very punk rock "HEY!" shouts. Very cool.

Band of Horses Everything All the Time
Love this one. They've been compared to The Shins & I love me some Shins.

Just thought it would be fun to look back some day & see what we were listening to at the time.

Sleep

I used to take lots of pictures of Sadie sleeping, eating or taking a bath. I guess I don't take as many because she does so much more now than just sleep, eat & bathe. So in a follow up to my bath photo in my last post....here are a few sleeping pictures. Really, I couldn't help myself today. She just looked so calm & peaceful when I poked my head in the room to check on her. Wearing the Care Bear dress that she loves so very much, with her little diapered bum & squishy legs hanging out. And because I cannot take just one picture of any given scene, here are two of the four that I snapped (hee hee). Check out how big she is in her crib.

Horsies. Round & Round. Pink Horsie.

Did that title make any sense? Well, that's what Sadie would say if she was the one journaling.

I took Sadie to ride the carousel at Porter Park a few weeks back when they were running rides for free at a Parents As Teachers group meeting. She LOVED it! And she freaks out whenever we're at the park & she sees it. It's $1.00 per ride & I just feel like that's a lot to go around for 3 minutes. We were at the park a few times this week while the carousel was running & Sadie wanted to go on it so bad, but I didn't have any money on me. I kept telling her that we'd go with Daddy. So yesterday afternoon we took her over. She was so very excited. She had to be on the pink horse. Dylan rode with her & then when the ride was over & she refused to get off the horse, Dylan & I switched & I rode with her for one more ride.

We had so much fun. I love it when she gets so excited & smiles so big that her eyes get squinty.

And here's a really grainy picture of Sadie in the bathtub. I just really liked it.

Now I Remember....

why I put off taking Sadie to the doctor.

We spent 2 hours at the doctor's office today & 1 hour at stupid Wal-Mart waiting for her prescriptions. So annoying! Sadie is fine though. Just some congestion in her chest that the doctor wants to clear up. Hopefully she'll be feeling better in the next couple days & she won't be SO emotional & clingy!

And this is what's going on around here today....
Sadie in her big girl underwear. She has been undressing so much lately, so I let her wear some panties. She doesn't try to take them off either. Last night she wore a pair & stayed dry for a little while. I asked her if she needed to go potty without realizing that Dylan was in there using the bathroom. Sadie said "yes", but then I told her to wait & she peed her pants. The problem of having just one bathroom. She was sad, but I think it was good for her to feel that. We talked about how it felt wet on her legs & how that's really yucky. We'll see what happens today. Today she took her diaper off & went looking for her panties. I only have two pairs of those. Looks like I might have to buy some more.

I Wasn't Always Like This

I am really just learning how to use make-up. Didn't wear much when I was younger, but after I had Sadie I felt really blah. I felt really pale & plain & old. I added blush to my concealer & mascara. Now....thanks to a few lessons I can do it all....eyeliner, eyeshadow, lipgloss. And you know what? It's fun. I don't do it ALL everyday, but for special times like church or date nights I love going all out & It makes me feel good. Just something fun & I guess I'm trying to stay young.

Why I Blog

Been thinking about this lately & here are my reasons:

*I have never been better at keeping a "journal" as I have in the last 6 months here on my blog. I love how quick it is. I love that I can post a picture along with my words.

*I can share more with family & friends who are far away.

*I am able to record & remember things I've already forgotten about like a date Dylan & I went on or when Sadie started asking me to "tis" (kiss) her owies.

*I don't want to forget. Can't bear to forget life as we know it right now.

*I want them to know & remember. Memories. Moments. Everyday Bliss. Blessings. Trials. Insecurities. LOVE.

*Another way to stay connected.

*I do this for me. This makes me feel right & good.

Thanks for being a part of this with me.

Father's Day

We had a fun Father's Day around here. Dylan got to sleep in & then we made him breakfast. Bacon, eggs, english muffins & orange juice. We gave him a new tie (a tradition we started last year) & a subscription to Communication Arts magazine. I didn't even get a picture of him in his new tie. Bummer.

I am thankful for Dylan. He is a wonderful father. He has such a soft spot for Sadie. I love watching them play together. I'm glad that he wants so much to raise her correctly & that he helps out so very much with all the things that some men may consider "the woman's job". Thankful for the fun he brings to our family & I'm thankful for all he's doing to lead a righteous family.

I've been thinking about my Dad as well. So grateful for his example. He doesn't always say a lot, but I know he feels a lot. He has such a big heart. I'm thankful for his example of faith & of always doing what's right, simply because he loves the Lord.

What We Saw Today...

Dylan had the day off work today, so we decided to go exploring. We drove up to Island Park, a city about 50 miles north & walked around Harriman State Park. Sadie was loving the rocks & sticks & birds & horsies & waters. We're not sure why she calls water "waters" but we think it's funny.

Then we drove over to see Mesa Falls. Dylan & I both had panic attacks when we got to the observation deck. It just seemed like we were standing on this deck that hung out over the mountain & was 120 feet down. Dylan held on really tight to Sadie & I snapped a few quick photos. I think my heart beat slowed down when we got back to the parking lot. OH! We stopped in this little restored inn there where the ranger working there told us they had some "critters" in the back room. Well, it was actually the skins & teeth of lots of critters & the room smelled SO BAD! Like really, really, really bad breath. I had to get out!

Anyway, it was fun & we think we might go camping around there sometime this summer & make our way over to Yellowstone since it's so close.

We were all pretty hungry for dinner when we got home. Sadie was eating watermelon, with no shirt on. The juice was running down her belly & collecting in her belly button. We had a good laugh about that one.

Scrapbooking Makes Me Happy

I've been feeling a little scrapbooking groove lately. I'm working on finishing up the baby album I'm making as a gift for Chanel's baby girl Lauren. Lauren is only.....oh 6 months old now. But I'm getting close. Did a few spreads last night and it is amazing how much happier I wake up the next day. Chanel is going to hate me for teasing her like this, but I thought I'd post a few sneak peeks of the album. I'm loving it. Not exactly very "baby" loooking, but I love it & hope Chanel will too. I just have a couple more spreads & a title page to do. Might take me a few more weeks though, we'll see. Hang in there Chanel & know I'm doing this cause I love ya!

FHE Flowers

Dylan and I have both been feeling like we need to be much more consistent with having Family Home Evening. So last night I pulled something together. We talked about The Law of the Harvest & read Doctrine & Covenants 6:33; "Fear not to do good, my sons, for whatsoever ye sow, that shall ye also reap; therefore, if ye sow good ye shall also reap good for your reward." Then we went to the store & picked out some flowers to plant. It was fun to be together & I think the flowers make a nice addition to our porch. We were all so happy. I love the spirit that can be felt during family home evening & the whole night after. Glad we did it & I'm going to try hard to make sure we keep up on it.

Sadie is in love with her sunglasses. She will keep them on for quite a while, or put them on the top of her head or hang them on her shirt. She wore them through half of sacrament meeting on Sunday but it made her happy.

She has started singing along to the music that she hears on our stereo & in the car. It's just funny because were used to her only singing kid songs.

Today I was looking at Heather's blog & she had a picture of Dad holding Brandon. Sadie saw the picture & was pretty excited to see Poppa. When I scrolled down the screen & we couldn't see the photo anymore, she asked me for "more Poppa".

We took Sadie to see the movie Cars last Friday. She was really interested in the seats, the big screen & the popcorn. She lasted about 45 minutes into the movie & then needed to get up & walk around. Since then she's been telling everybody about Cars on the big TV. We were in Wal-Mart last night & walked past a display with tons of Cars stuff. She got so excited & yelled out "CAAAAAAAARS!". It was so funny.

While talking to Grandpa Todd on the phone last Sunday, Sadie said "Poppa. Mony" & the put her My Little Pony up to the phone & said in a high voice "hi poppa" (talking for the pony). Too funny.

We have a parent educator that has started coming to our house once a month. This is a free service in Madison County. We talk about Sadie's development & she gives me ideas on what to work on with her. We had an appointment yesterday & she told me that Sadie is very advanced for her age, especially with her speech. She told me that I didn't need to go by what most books or other sources say she should be doing for her age & that I could probably start working on colors & a few letters for letter recognition with her. Smart little stinker.

I have this goal to not run the air conditioning for the whole month of June. So far we've been doing pretty good. We only turned it on the first night we got home from Las Vegas & it's been off ever since. I'm pretty serious about it & Dylan has called me crazy....but we are actually fine without it for now & plus we're probably poorer than we've ever been & that is just how it's going to be this summer. No grants or financial aid for Dylan's off semester. We will survive though.

This summer has been fun so far. We've been going swimming in little kiddie pools w/ Amanda's girls & spending lots of time outside. We have plans to do some camping this summer & I'm excited for the 4th of July parade & all those festivities.

Dylan has felt a little stuck on his BFA project which he needs to present in August. He decided to fast yesterday for inspiration & direction. I'm so happy to be married to a man with so much faith. I really want his project to be stellar & I know he does too. He'll get there....I know it.

A Conversation

From earlier today:

Me: I just love her so much at this age.

Dylan: Yeah......you know you say that all the time.

And from this evening:

Me: Why does she constantly have to be touching me or sitting right on top of me?!?! Arrr!

Did I really say Arrr? Ha ha. How moody can I be? I think the heat was getting to me. But that girl was all attached to me today, from the minute we all got out of bed. Still love her & her milky, white skin.

Fun Times in Vegas OR How Many Photos Can I Fit in This Post

Well we had a great time on our little vacation.

Friday started with a trip to the hospital to see Heather & their new baby. She had an easy delivery which is great & little Brandon Cole is just too adorable for words. 8 lbs. 13 oz. & a little handsome dude already.
That evening Ryan went through the temple. I had forgotten my recommend at home, but called the temple & they were able to contact my bishop & give me permission to go in. I was so happy. My grandma had sealings done right after that. She was sealed to grandpa & the two boys, and grandpa was sealed to his parents. It was all very cool. So happy to be in the temple with my parents for the first time since Dylan & I were married. It was really cool that Dylan's parents were there as well. So proud of Ryan also.
Saturday was our anniversary....6 years. Dylan spent the first part of the day with Bryan & we met up to see X-Men. It was fun to go to a movie. Dylan & I have seen all the X-Men movies together in the theatre so that was also cool. That evening we went to dinner at Bahama Breeze. My favorite restaurant from when we lived there. It was yummy, yummy. yummy. We had a fun time. We decided not to do gifts this year & with all the work of getting ready for our trip we didn't even give each other cards. But it didn't matter, cause we had fun together & were able to tell each other how we think the other person in so incredible & the best husband ever & best father ever & vice versa.

Ryan spoke in church on Sunday & all the kids were actually really good during the whole sacrament meeting. Heather came to church with her little two day old baby & it was good to talk with her for a bit afterwards at Mom's house. The open house that evening was fun too. There was so much super yummy food. Mmmm.

Monday night we went out to Spring Mountain Ranch & had a little picnic with the Todds. I did a senior photo shoot with Shannon so she could have pictures to send out with her graduation announcements. Here are a few of my favorites. I also took some of Haley & Gary, but haven't gotten a chance to proof those yet.

Sadie had so much fun with all the family. Her and Conner were particularly cute together. He'd come looking for her first thing when he'd get home & she'd always be calling out for him ("Hoooonner").

Dylan looked like this a lot on my parent's couch.
Played Cranium with all the Todds. Bryan & Jacqueline were the big winners. Dylan & I found that Creative Cat was our best category. Hmmm.....go figure.
I got to go out to lunch with Michelle & Ipuna, my fellow blogging mommies. It was so great to see them in person. We stay so connected & up to date with each other through our blogs, which is nice. We had a fun time chatting and eating at The Cheesecake Factory. I'm thankful to have friends. By the way....Chanel you were missed that day.
We had so much fun! Some of the things we got to do together....We went shopping at Urban Outfitters, Greatland Target, The Gap, Julie Jane Paper Co., Desert Art Supply, Big B's & got to eat some yummy fast food...In-N-Out Burger (twice!!!), Chipotle, El Pollo Loco & Panda Express.

We also went to see We Are Scientists at a little venue called the Celebrity. It was so very cool. Dylan & I haven't been to a show in a couple years. It's something we've both always loved doing & it was so good to actually get a chance to see somebody cool. It was a really great show. There is just something about live music. Makes me happy. Especially when it's really loud & really rockin' & it's hard for you to hear anything the rest of the night.

Well, I think I hit all the big stuff. Now that we're back home it's time for me to go back on my no sugar diet.

And it's officially summer. I'm really wanting to make this a memorable one with my almost 2 year old little girl. Been thinking about how I'm going to do that.

That's it. I'm done. Love you all.

Home

Came home to a pile of bills in the mail & no food in the apartment. Doing laundry & going grocery shopping this afternoon.

It's a gorgeous day here. Sunny with a cool breeze. We have the windows open & it feels great. Dylan is already back to work & we have a lot of work to do around the apartment, putting everything back in it's place. Had a great time in Vegas. Already missing everybody. I'll post my thoughts & some photos from the past week soon. I wasn't very good at taking photos on this trip. Had fun experiencing everything through my own two eyes, though.

It's good to be home.
