Biter Biscuit

After on & off teething episodes for the past few months, I think Claire is breaking a tooth. I gave her a biter biscuit yesterday & she thoroughly enjoyed it.

Note to self: remember to only give biter biscuits just before bath time.

Cozy Up

My contribution for the Mixtapery group. I thought you all might be interested in my packaging. I sewed scraps of fabric onto the paper. The thought was that it would look like a warm, comfy quilt. All ten covers are different. Check out my list of songs & why I chose them over here.

Garland Swap!

Sending this off to Candi today. It's just a bunch of torn strips of fabric tied around a string of white Christmas lights. When I first got going on this, I thought I made my fabric strips too long, but I think the shaggy length looks great with the playful colors.

And just a few other surprises wrapped up cute!

Check out more fabulous garland creations in the flickr group!

What I've Been Up To

* Going to the movies with my family.
* Shopping for & dressing my girls in their Christmas dresses. Oh and a little 6 am black friday shopping as well.
* Decorating for Christmas. Stringing a cranberry garland while watching Scrooged with my husband.
* Enjoying some books from the library...particularly this one.
* Spending 2-1/2 hours at the optometrist's office & coming home to a big bowl of rocky road ice cream.

Sunshine Even When She's Sick

Claire is sick. You know the drill. Runny nose, raw from being wiped. Watery, goopey eyes. Sleeping lots during the day but waking up more frequently at night. Poor thing. She's pretty happy right after she wakes up from her naps though & I caught her here just between taking off her jammies & dressing her for the day. I'm always so pleased to see her in her diaper. You forget how little you see that baby skin when they're always in their long sleeved winter wardrobe.

I should be cleaning out the fridge today...getting it ready for all that Thanksgiving food. But instead I've been playing & cuddling with my girls. Sadie & I had a really tough day yesterday. We were not clicking with eat other. I was trying to get through too many errands. Today we are just letting it all go. Balance.....I have such a hard time achieving it.

Hot Cocoa

Dylan just told me that I look like a little kid when I'm drinking my hot cocoa. He says it's obvious to him that I'm enjoying every bit. I guess I get a little giddy about it.

Since you guys always have the answers to everything, I'm asking you to teach me. Teach me the art of hot chocolate making. What are the best brands? Or should I go from scratch? Is there a quick way to make it from scratch? What about add ins? I obviously like the marshmallows, but that may be because my Swiss Miss mix just isn't sweet or tasty enough on it's own. Anyway, please share your yummy, chocolatey knowledge. Thanks.

Oh Yeah....The Kids

I've been so busy taking photos of stuff for the shop that I hardly took any photos of the girls this week. Bad mom!

Claire is just a doll. She has her mouth open like this a lot & she makes this real airy, breathy sound when she's excited.

Sadie got her peacock Barbie as a reward for wearing her glasses. When you ask a kid to look at you & smile, is it possible to get any other look than this? Not with my kid. She's started putting her glasses on without even being asked. I think she can recognize now that she sees better with them on.

A Nice Surprise

Check me out over at Vintage Indie today!

Okay, So....

I didn't mean for that last post to be such a downer. And I was really trying to say that the "good holiday" is the one that gets me stressed out. I know I'm not the only one that gets a slight stressful feeling at the thought of Christmas. Sure it's behind a whole lot of excitement...but it's always there.

As far as Thanksgiving goes, I'm starting to get a little more excited. I still need to figure out what my menu will be, but I'm way excited to have Dylan home for the weekend & I'm planning some fun activities.

Anyway, I wanted to share a few fun links that are inspiring me & making me get really excited for Christmas.

this little fabric pocket advent calendar * this cool ornament tutorial * this cute as can be garland * these tags made from vintage cuteness * and these sweet ornaments

Still haven't been to K-Mart to check out Martha's holiday line & I need to spend some time checking out Target's goods as well. That's always fun.

Almost Naked

Gee it already time to buy a turkey? Why do I have no excitement for Thanksgiving this year? Perhaps because it's just going to be us at home. All I can think about is all the work & my kitchen is kinda crappy. Not a fun "let's cook a huge meal!" kinda kitchen.

Oh well....let's get on with it so we can get going with the good holiday. Oooh. Just as I said that I started to feel stressed.

Finding & Listing

I've been finding lots of treasures on my recent shopping trips. I love each of them & wish that I had the space to keep them all. But the desire to pay off debts always wins & so I list them for sale. I've been photographing items for the shop this morning & plan on adding them here & there over the next few days. You, my friends, get a sneak peek. Enjoy.

Oh! I came across another plate set. They're in the shop as well.

Good Morning Sunshine!

Blury photo, but it makes me smile. See that light shining on the girls? The sun is out this morning & I've been running around taking photos like a mad woman. So happy to see this sunlight after a few dark & gloomy days. Sadie keeps saying...."what's this mom?" when she happens to end up in a spot where that low autumn light shines through the windows & hits her. "It's in here too!" she said when we walked into the kitchen to get her some milk. So cute.

We are going on day 6 of wearing her glasses full time. Sadie had just come out of bed when I took this photo. Just a few minutes after taking it she put her glasses on.....get this!!.....without me asking her to. Incredible. I'm so happy!

I love little Claire in this photo too. She's mastered the army crawl & gets wherever she wants like this. Her favorite spot is the phone & answering machine that we have sitting on the ground. I know...don't ask. We need to find a better solution for that PWT little setup.

Random Stuff For The Weekend

* These plates were another thrift store find this week. I think they are so cool. I love how the photographs turned out. I put them up in the shop, but they sold before I got a chance to mention them here. Dylan is a little sad that I sold them.

* I am so DRY. This colder weather is doing a number on my skin. My problem areas are my face (cheeks, under eye & lips) & my hands. I'm putting on my moisturizer 3 times each day, trying to remember to put on hand cream & trying to remember to drink lots of water. Any tips or suggestions? Any cool (cheap) products I should know about?

* My library has been good to me lately. My favorite recent check out was Sock and Glove. The projects look fairly simple & they are just so darn adorable. I must own this book....someday.

* There is a coupon for $5 off a Polly Pocket toy. Some Polly Pocket toys are priced under $5 so you can get a toy for free! What a great stocking stuffer for little girls.

* If you haven't seen already, the Sew Mama Sew blog is posting tutorials for handmade gift ideas every day this month.

This 3 Year Old Business.....

Not sure how much I like it.

Some of the trouble Sadie's gotten into as of late:

* Took the egg carton out of the fridge & cracked an egg on the counter. Luckily there was only one egg in the carton to begin with.
* Got into the bread bag & pulled out half the loaf. Mangled up all the pieces on the counter.
* Helped herself to the lotion. Gobs & gobs of lotion smeared on the top of the entertainment center, the TV screen & her body....oh, on the carpet as well.
* Took the spray bottle filled with water around the house to do some "cleaning". Sprayed water right into the control buttons on the TV. None of the buttons would work. Remote didn't work either. Thought she had killed the TV. Luckily it was okay once it dried out.
* Spilled her beans & rice all over the floor. I made her vacuum it up. No lesson was learned as she had a blast using the vacuum hose.

I think glasses glare is going to be my biggest enemy.

Waiting For The Sun

I had a successful thrift store trip earlier this week & now I'm just waiting for the sun to come out so I can get photos of some of the items that will go into the shop. I was happy to find some fabrics, all which have pretty large yardage. The yellow polka dot & green gingham will be used for the doorway puppet theater I'm making the girls for Christmas. These fabrics are waiting in line to be washed behind all the regular laundry.

Sadie is usually up in the mornings before I am. Just about every morning she comes in our room and says, "The sun is out!". It's already 9:30 & she's still in bed today. Sweet girl. We had an appointment with the optometrist this week. We need to go back later this month to have her eyes dilated. So we really didn't find out much at this appointment. However, the doctor did make me feel a bit guilty for not having her wear her glasses all the time. I made a goal to stay on top of it. With the promise of a new toy next time we go to Target, she wore her glasses all day yesterday. I let her take a break from them for about an hour in the evening, but she put them back on again when asked & we even had to take them off her face so we could get her jammies over her head before bedtime. I'm proud of her. I love her & I want her to be healthy.

And, Mr. Sun, it would be good if you could make an appearance today.

Learning the ABC's

I've been working with Sadie on her ABC's. Our main goal right now is letter recognition & a little bit of what sounds each letter makes. I print up a letter worksheet. We work on writing the uppercase & lowercase letter. Then we cut out pictures from magazines that start with that letter. See above for letter B: baby, bike, Blue, bear. Sadie has responded to this really well. It's great for us to sit down & have even just 10 minutes where all my attention is focused on her. We've been taking it slow, just one letter per week. At bedtime, when I read her a book, I also like to ask her to point out specific letters....both upper & lowercase.

And the Yellow Rose Apron Goes To....

Chloe Elizabeth!

And by the looks of things, she enjoys cooking. Right on! Chloe, send me an e-mail w/ your address & I'll get that off to you soon. Thanks for all the comments. I wish that I could send you all a little happy something in the mail. Since I can't afford that.....I'll give you a yummy recipe that we had last week. This one is from Everyday Food Magazine. It came together really quick & was very yummy.

Chicken Tenders Parmesan w/ Penne & Broccoli

2 large eggs
3/4 cup finely grated Parmesan
1/2 cup plain dried breadcrumbs
1-1/2 lbs. chicken tenders
1-3/4 cup tomato sauce (homemade or store bought)
4 oz. part-skim mozzarella, shredded (about 1 cup)
8 oz. penne rigate or other short pasta
1 pkg. (10 oz.) frozen broccoli florets, thawed
1 tbsp. olive oil

1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Heat broiler, w/ rack set 4 inches from heat. In a medium bowl, whisk eggs. In another bowl, combine 1/2 cup Parmesan and breadcrumbs. Season chicken w/ salt & pepper. Dip tenders in egg, then in Parmesan mixture; place on a rimmed baking sheet. Broil until golden, 2-4 minutes per side.

2. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Spread 1 cup tomato sauce in bottom of a 9x13 baking dish. Then top w/ chicken, remaining 3/4 cup sauce, & finally mozzarella. Bake 15-20 minutes or until cheese is melted.

3. Meanwhile, cook pasta in boiling water until al dente, according to package directions, adding broccoli for final 30 seconds. Reserve 1/2 cup pasta water; drain pasta & broccoli, and return to pot. Add oil & remaining 1/4 cup Parmesan. Toss, gradually adding some reserved pasta water until pasta is lightly coated.

***If anybody really wants a yellow rose half apron, please e-mail me. I can make you one & set up a reserved listing on etsy. They'd be $15 plus shipping.

Blog Addiction, Part 4

So when I first started reading blogs a few years ago, it was scrapbooking blogs that I was into. I've moved more into sewing & craft blogs as I've become more interested in those things. But here are the few remaining scrapbookers blogs that I still read:

Ali Edwards

Elsie Flannigan
Emily Falconbridge
Jamie Waters

Apron Giveaway

For reaching my 400th post, I decided that I'd give away this half apron that I made from vintage fabric. Just think how cute you'd be making your holiday meals in this little number. So give me some love. Leave a comment & you'll be entered to win it. I'll pick a name on Sunday night.

Bring On The Candy! (My 400th Post)

We had a lot of fun last night. The weather was amazingly wonderful. Light jacket weather. This was the first year that we really went trick-or-treating from door to door with Sadie. It was fun to walk along the sidewalks with fall leaves crunching under our feet.

Sadie wanted a sad jack-o-lantern with 5 teeth. Dylan whipped it out.

I went to go put our pumpkin out on the doorstep & saw this! Tons of trick-or-treaters up & down the street. It looked like a movie. Other things out here that look like stuff out of a movie...schools & churches. I need to take photos for my desert dwelling family out west.

Meeting up w/ Andin & Cambria. Getting ready to head out.

Ladybug Claire. Her very first Halloween.

I'll be back later with a little giveaway for my 400th post. I'm gathering some stuff together from my stash!

Also, today is the last day to sign up for the garland swap. E-mail me at if you want in.
