PJ Pants For The Big One

This is for Alexandra. Hope you are all feeling better soon.

I picked up some flannel on sale for $1.50 a yard at the Joann's President Day sale. This is the second pair of pj pants that I've made for Sadie using this tutorial. The first pair ended up being a little too short & need to be made into capris. This pair I made too long. Go figure. Didn't want to make the same mistake twice. One pair takes me all of 45 minutes to an hour to complete. I'm thinking that these would be really nice made with jersey or a sweet vintage cotton. With the elastic, one pair of pants ended up costing $2.00. Not bad at all.

For Those In The Desert

Views from our apartment this morning. It really is quite beautiful today, the way that the snow is hanging onto the trees & bushes.

Barack Obama In Akron

We decided to go down to Akron on Saturday to see Barack Obama speak. The Cleveland rally was later that night & we wanted to take the girls with us, so it made more sense to take the short trip to Akron. We stood in a line that circled the entire city block. It was sunny, but cold out. We had both of the girls. It was a crazy thing to do. But is was really, really exciting. Some volunteers came by & gave us 4 tickets so that we could go wait in the much shorter line to get in. I didn't take my camera because basically it's too big for me to juggle along with both of the kids.

Sadie sat on Dylan's shoulders for a little bit in the beginning. I went off to the side of the group so that I could let Claire crawl around. It was really cool to be able to see little Sadie up above the crowd, clapping & having a good time. Hopefully she'll have a memory of this when she gets older.

One man came up to Claire and said, "I know it's been a rough start with Bush, but don't worry. Things will get better." Funny.

Anyway, it was exciting. It felt good to be a part of this large group of people so excited (finally) about a politician. So hopeful. And SO wanting some major change in our country.

What I love about Obama:

* He wants to spur the economy & create new jobs by changing to green renewable energy.
* He wants to raise the minimum wage.
* Give tuition money to college students as long as they give back by doing community service.
* Tax breaks for the middle class.
* Focus on early learning.
* Bring an end to the war.
* and much, much more.

Basically focus on the American people & our needs.

He does not accept campaign money from special interest groups which, in my opinion speaks the loudest of his character. He is amazing. Just what our country needs right now.

In Ohio, although the primary election is on March 4th, we're able to go vote early. I plan on making it out there to cast my vote for Barack Obama in the next couple days & hopefully I'll be able to see his name on the ballot & vote again for him in the Presidential election.

Just In Time For Spring

All windows & a few doorways are now set up with draft snakes. I made 13 of them all together. Well, at least we're all ready for next year. And these will continue to serve their purpose for the next couple months. In the end, I've accomplished something & that feels darn good.

New Blog For Sew Along

I've created a separate blog for the sew along. You can find it here. My brain was starting to feel a little jumbled with all of it here on my personal blog. I think this setup will work out for the best.

So please change your bookmarks. Sorry to change it up on all of you already, but I figured better sooner than later. :)

Mobile Swap

I'm almost finished with my mobile for the swap. I just need to cut down the dowel & drill a few holes to attach a string for hanging. I photographed it today because I plan on mailing it out tomorrow.....only one day late. :)

My swap partner Laurie requested white on white which sent my head spinning at first. I finally came up with the idea of sewing vintage doilies onto felt. I'm very pleased with the finished product. Hopefully the recipient will love it too.

Sew Along Info

Thanks to all those who decided to join in on the sew along!! I think this is going to be a lot of fun. I will be listing the names of all who have contacted me so far along my sidebar. I also set up a flickr group here. If you don't have a flickr account yet, I encourage you to get one. It's free!

One great thing about the sew along is that you can decide to join in with us at any time. Just contact me & I'll add your name to the list. So let's get going with the current project & remember to encourage each other along.

The project for Feb./March is pot holders & table runners. You can make one or the other, or both if you'd like! You can make multiples for gifts or just one set for yourself. There really are no rules. Just remember to share photos in the flickr group or on your own blog. We'll finish up with this project by the end of March. At that time we'll start on something new.

Now for a few pot holder ideas & some table runner ideas as well.

Please feel free to add the sew along button to your own website. If you have any questions, please ask me or post a discussion in the flickr group. Happy sewing to you all!!!

Oh Sweet Quilt Top,

I was happy to come across you today. You've been tucked away in one of my fabric bins for quite a while. The last time I saw you I was getting close to having my second baby, Claire. I had intended to finish you before she arrived, because you & all your sweetness were going to be my first handmade gift for baby Claire. But I was late in getting started on you & of course there was that move across the country that took my attention away from you. I suppose there was a little bit of fear in completing you as well. You see, I've never made a real quilt. Don't think that I have forgotten about you in all this time we've spent apart. I've often thought of you. But since I haven't seen you in a while I thought that I remembered you looking a little weird. So glad to have found you today looking not at all weird, but actually very lovely indeed. I believe that you will look very beautiful once you're actually completed. I promise to be on the lookout for the perfect backing fabric for you & someday soon perhaps you can enjoy a life of keeping my little one warm & comfy.

Happy Valentine's Day

Now it just wouldn't be Valentine's Day without some of these.

Sugar Cookies

1-1/2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. butter
1 egg
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. almond extract
2-1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tarter

Mix powdered sugar, butter, egg, vanilla & almond extract. Mix in flour, baking soda and cream of tarter. Cover & refrigerate at east 2 hours. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Divide dough into halves. Roll each half 3/16 inch thick on lightly floured surface. Cut into shapes. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake until edges are light brown 7 to 8 minutes. Makes about 5 dozen 2 inch cookies.

Buttercream Icing

1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
4 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. milk

Cream butter & shortening. Add vinalla. Add sugar one cup at a time. Add milk.

Princess Leia

She's been obsessed with Star Wars since we watched it as a family on a Sunday evening a couple weeks ago. I thought she'd enjoy having her hair done like Princess Leia today.

"I do look like her!" she said after I told her to go look in the mirror.

From then on out I was to call her Leia & she called me Luke. At the grocery store she kept running ahead of me & hiding behind the store displays. She kept saying there were monsters (storm troopers?). And I heard a lot of "dum, dum, dum" singing out of her today. (The Star Wars theme song) As the buns fell out she let me know that she was no longer Leia.

**Please excuse the black spot right in the middle of my photos. I suppose I need to take the camera in to be cleaned.

Wanna Sew With Me?

I want to get a little sew along going. I'll choose a project & anybody interested in doing it can comment or e-mail me. I'll get a list together of all who are involved. We can all encourage each other along the way & maybe set up a flickr group to share our finished projects. I figure this will give me more motivation to actually get some of the stuff on my list done, and make it a lot more fun.

The first sew-along project will be pot holders and/or a table runner. Something easy to start with. We can all share our progress on our own blogs with a completion deadline of March 28th. So what do you say? Anybody wanna sew with me?

30 Days - 30

Well, this is it. The last day. I had so much fun with this project. You can see the whole set here.

I have decided to do a 30 day photo a day album once every season. I think this is going to be my main "scrapbooking". I've really fallen out of scrapbooking & have often felt quite guilty about that. I realized that there isn't just one way to scrapbook. This will be my new system & I'm pretty stoked about it. I'll share more once I get my photos ordered & put in my album. Dylan & I have also thought about making some more albums up for the etsy shop. We'll see. Thanks for putting up with me through this & thanks for all your fun comments. Please think about joining in with me when I start this up again in the spring.

It's my favorite & my best!

30 Days - 28

Healthy cookies w/ wheat flour & no white sugar. They were okay. Not great.

We've been watching family movies together. It was Star Wars Episode IV today.

30 Days - 27

Finally! A date night with my husband. The best Mexican food ever & a movie. The only thing that would have made it better....if the baby didn't cry for the sitter the entire time we were gone.

30 Days - 26

Standing on a chair in the kitchen. Eating hint of lime tortilla chips. After taking a few bites, she thought this one looked like a smile. Little jokester.

30 Days - 25

Trying to be better.
