Yummy Food

You seriously must try this recipe for Flank Steak. It is incredible. Your man will love you for making it. Recipe can be found here.

I also wanted to mention that my favorite salad right now is romaine with chopped cucumbers, feta cheese crumbles, craisins & a raspberry vinaigrette dressing. Yum!

The Winner of All the Crazy People.....

is Ariane!! Yippee!!

I know Ariane from waaaaayy back in the day. So I was excited to draw her name. :) E-mail me your address, Ariane & I'll get that off to you right away.

Seriously, you guys are insane weirdos. I feel like a really normal person after reading all those comments. Thanks for playing along. That was really fun. I laughed a lot!

In The Forest

Today Sadie found a flashlight & took it into our small hallway where all the doors could be closed & no light would get in. She called out to me to join her in the forest & told me not to worry cause there weren't any beasts in there.

She read books by the light of her flashlight & made some hand shadows. I tried to take some photos, without a clue as to what settings to set the camera at & fell in love with each of the shots that I did get.

Three year olds are the best! (most of the time)

Giveaway Time!

Okay. This is going to be a quick one so be sure to post your comment right away. I'll draw a name tomorrow night & that person will win some cute stuff! A tote bag, a reversible headband & a travel tissue cozy.

Let's make this a little more interesting too.....tell me something.....anything....maybe something quirky about yourself.

Here are a few of mine:

* I think that I have a deep voice. I often ask Dylan if my voice is deep. Like too deep for a girl. He assures me that he never would have married me if he didn't like my voice. Then he tells me that he wouldn't describe it as "deep" but more like "husky". Now what girl wouldn't want to be told that her voice is husky? You all heard my voice in the video a few posts back. It's not deep, right? I'm just completely nuts.

* Last week I noticed that my bottom lip comes up a little in the center. I'm pretty positive that it's always been like this...but I also noticed that I bite my bottom lip whenever I'm concentrating on sewing.....which we all know I've been doing a ton of. So, even though I know this is the natural shape of my lip I also all of the sudden think that maybe my biting it has made it this way. So whenever I think about it, I pinch my bottom lip & try to plump it out. Again, I know.....I'm nuts.

* I also cry at every movie I watch. Always. Sometimes it's full on can't stop myself & sometimes I just get a little misty. Dylan also knows the exact point of the movie that I'll do this & he looks over at me & laughs.

Ok let's hear yours. :)

Shop Updating

I am starting to list items in the shop slowly. This seems to work a little better for me than one big update. Just to alert you...I did list the vintage floral quilt today. The other one sold at the market. So be aware that this one is now in the shop.

If you had your eye on something in particular, please e-mail me & if I still have it available, I can set up a reserved listing.

Watch for a giveaway here tomorrow!

Summer Market Recap

We did it! We survived. It was a nice hot, sticky day. I had a lot of fun interacting with all the customers & I was so pleased with each sale. In all I had a great time & really enjoyed hearing the comments that people would make about my goods.

I love my family. They were such great helpers & so supportive.

Dylan designed these posters that will also be available in the etsy shop soon. They're awesome!

My super professional cash box.

And my view across the way. This couple had the right idea.

It was a great fair. Very well organized & there were lots of other really great, quality vendors. I am happy to have been a part of it. Thanks to all of you for so much positive support along the way. I 'm feeling that a giveaway is in order, because you guys seriously are the best. Watch for that soon. I have a lot of remaining stock as well so watch the etsy shop for updates.

On the drive out to the park, with the van all loaded up & kids in tow, Dylan told me that no matter what happened I should be proud of myself...and you know what, I am. :)

Business Cards

Dylan made up my business cards & I love them. This was the first set. I think he adjusted the colors so that they are a little easier to read for the next round of printing. The floral print on the back is from a vintage sheet, of course. I've never had a business card before, so I'm thinking this is all pretty cool.

We will be up tomorrow bright & early to go set up for the market. Hard to believe the day is finally coming. We are oh so ready for it, though. Everything is packed up & ready to go. Today I must focus on cleaning my house & doing some grocery shopping. Tomorrow we work, work, work & then on Sunday I hope there is time for a long nap. :)

If any blog readers come out to the market, please be sure to say hello. I would love to meet you!

Quilted

Finished another quilt for the market this Saturday. I used vintage florals again but added in some linen & seersucker. It is so soft and perfectly wrinkly & I love it with all my heart.

Last night I did get some sewing in but Dylan cut me off at 10:00. Then I still didn't manage to get to sleep until midnight because we were laying in bed talking up a storm. Too much anxiety over this show & all that needs to get done still. One thing we talked about was how I should price these quilts. Any suggestions?

Tote Bags

A pile of tote bags ready to go.

Thanks for all the comments on yesterday's crazy events. I'm getting used to this short haired girl & I actually kinda like the cut on her....minus the really chopped off spots here & there that just couldn't be covered up. It is what it is.

I somehow managed to pull a muscle in my shoulder yesterday, then I agitated it by cutting up a storm & pulling a quilt through my sewing machine over & over last night. The week has only just begun & it's already insane. I'm telling myself that it will get better & trying to make myself take a night off from sewing. We'll see what I do when the night rolls around. My anxiety may just get the best off me & I'll be hunched over that machine again tonight.

Unplanned Haircut

The day was going so well. Claire was down for a nap. I was preparing dinner early (a chicken salad that needed to be refrigerated). Sadie was watching a movie. I didn't realize that she was eating candy & had gotten her scissors to cut open the candy wrappers. I finish my dinner & come out of the kitchen to her smiling face. But it's that real sneaky kinda smile. She knew she'd done something bad. "I cut my hair!!!", she said.

Great! I cried. I took her to a mirror & then she cried. "I do not want to be a boy" was what she kept saying. Then we went to get it fixed. As you can tell, life goes on as normal for her...except she's not allowed to use scissors.

Vintage Maps Wooden Blocks

1-3/4" wooden blocks decorated with vintage maps in three colorways. I initially thought these would be used just for decor, but they are non-toxic & a great size for little hands...so they could be used for play as well. I'm happy with how these turned out & Dylan helped me a ton. Thanks, Dyl.

Toys

Dylan took the girls out for a few hours on Saturday so that I could get some sewing done. They decided to go to Big Fun. When they returned home, Sadie was excited to tell me that they got some playmobil. Our family has quickly become obsessed with playmobil & I guess Sadie was the one to spot a little bag of vintage cowboys & indians playmobil figures.

They also found these bird whistles. Do you remember these from your childhood? You have to fill them with water & then when you blow they make little bird tweets. Sadie has been making lots of trips to the bathroom sink to refill her whistle & our house is filled with the sounds of little birds.

I decided to start twittering after all & it is strangely addictive. If you are out there twittering, or decide to start too, be sure to add me as a friend!

Bug Home

Sadie is obsessed with bugs lately. Ever since we went to the library storytime about bugs. I swear she can spot them from a mile away & she loves to catch them. It was so cute when she caught her first lightning bug on the 4th of July.

So I decided to do a little craft with her. We transformed an oatmeal container into a little bug home for her. I sprayed the container with primer & then let her paint it. She went on & on about how she's an artist & so is Daddy & Mommy & Claire. Cute thing. Once it dried I cut an opening & then taped pink tulle fabric on the inside. Some other kind of sturdier netting would probably work better here, but we like to use what we already have on hand.

Then it was outside to fill it with some leaves & bugs. We had a hard time finding bugs in the 90 degree heat so we'll have to try again another day, but she did manage to find one rollie pollie. Which she later told me that she broke him & he was jelly inside. Nice.

Still Working

Here are a few more pillows made from Target dishtowels.

I'm still chugging along...getting ready for the summer market, which it is only 9 days! Yikes! Starting to stress out a little over here. I'm pleased with all that I've been able to accomplish over the last few weeks, though. It's okay to be proud of myself, right?

I'm also excited for it to be over with. My house can use a good cleaning & I've got a new crafty idea that's been kicking around in my head since May. It's ready to come out & I'm more than ready to get started on it. The summer market has been great for me so far (we'll see how the actual show goes). I'm in such a great creative groove right now. :) It's all good.

Little Photog

We have an old, crappy digital camera that we let Sadie mess around with. She gets on kicks where she walks around taking photos like crazy. Well, she ran out of space on her memory card so we finally uploaded them today. Take a look. I probably posted way too many, but they make me laugh.
