Egg Carton Counting Game

To make this preschooler counting activity, you simply cut out little pieces of paper (I used a 1/2 inch circle punch) and number them 1-12. Then glue them into the bottom of an empty egg carton. I didn't have any elmer's glue on hand so I tried taping these with scotch tape & they didn't stick at all. Then you use dry beans & have the child place as many beans in each cup as the number says.

Simple, easy, & free. Just how I like it! My 4 year old was really excited to have something new to keep her busy. This game could also be changed up with letters instead of numbers. Label each cup with a letter. Place one dry bean inside & close the lid. Give the egg carton a good shake & open in up to see what letter the bean landed on. Then give the child a category like animals, foods, etc. & they must come up with something in that category that starts with the letter that the bean landed on.

What fun stuff do you do with your empty egg cartons? Please do share!

This isn't a new idea, but we've cut an egg carton in half, painted it, and added things to make it into a caterpillar. It was something fun that I could sit down and do with Sydney.

we used to do this with my daughter when she was about that age - except with a muffin tin. To make it more challenging, make her use tweezers to do it! Great for developing fine motor skills. In fact, I need to do that with my boys...

Thanks for the reminder....I am gonna use that for centers this week in preschool. You can also put colors and have them sort buttons, or conversation hearts for valentines. Maybe throw in a spinner or die, identify the number, count the object fill each spot with one item until the whole carton is full.
Fun Fun!

We've made spiders from one egg cup of the carton. Also, if you use three, and cut part of the two outer cups off, you can turn them into wings for a bat. (Can you tell how we decorated for Halloween?)
