See that rolled elastic there on the back, on the right side? This happens to me all the time & I think buying the no-roll elastic from now on may be worth it.
This is an easy top for Sadie to out on & take off because it's all elastic. I'm a little upset with myself that I forgot to put a little tag in the back of this one. It could definitely use one.
I considered putting pockets on this shirt. Couldn't decide on using the same fabric for them or using contrasting fabric. Decided to go without for now. Any thoughts on pockets for this style shirt? Yay or nay?
I love that this can be worn as is for warmer weather & with a shirt underneath for colder weather. I'm thinking that it should be able to fit her for a few years.
I will definitely be making another one of these. Or maybe two...

SOO cute (as always)! I always have bought the regular elastic because I thought it felt better quality, but recently have bought the "no roll." What a great invention.....I think it is a little more comfortable too, like the edges aren't as crisp or something?

no roll elastic is my hero! makes clothes feel alot more comfortable, what with there being no bunching and such. whoever invented that stuff is a genius.
Cute.. Cute. Pockets.. Same fabric, with ruffly white solid lace or eyelet.. little pocket, u bottom.. like you often see on an apron. I miss having little girls to sew cuteness for.. :)

Pockets: I'd go with a contrast pattern.

CarolinaDreamz - I thought about the same thing w/ the pockets. rounded bottom & lace or eyelet trim. :)
Sarah - most of my fabric is from the thrift store. I use a lot of bed sheets....this one happened to be just some yardage. I think it was like 5 or 6 yards for $3.

I'm not a total dummy, really, but I've never sewn with elastic. Although, I've encountered plenty of rolled over elastic - is it labeled actually labeled "no-roll" elastic? And will it be the same place as the packs of regular elastic or is it sold by the yard? (sorry, but I've never once found good help at my local big store)

this is a very sweet top...did you make up the pattern? It looks achievable - even for a novice sewer like myself.

The no-roll elastic is sold both in the packages & by the yard. It will state on the package if it is the no-roll kind.....i'm not sure if that's the exact wording they use, though.
Would you ever consider posting a tutorial on how to make this top? I would love to be able to make one myself!!!

The top looks similar to the old pillowcase dresses - how easy was it to make? Cause I can see a bunch with little circle pockets or hem details.
I love this top as much now as when you posted about it the first time. I understand how you made the basic top (it's just a tube with elastic around the top seem right?) but how did you do the sleeves? I'd love to make a top like this for my little girl, but I'm somewhat challenged in the see-it-and-make-it-without-a-guide-of-some-sort department.
