Witchy Ladies

They were little witches for Halloween. I made everything except the hats. I think that they looked adorable, but I'm wondering if it's worth it to make the costumes rather than buying them. I'm not sure if I could find a store bought costume at a reasonable price that I liked enough. The hunt for one would probably take just as much time as it does to make them. Any thoughts on the subject?

I hope you all had a spooky fun Halloween. We did!

I know what you mean Candace. I couldn't find any in the shops that I liked. They were very poorly made too. I bought Lili a witch's hat for $4AU, Lachie a dracula mask for $4AU, and dressed Lili in black top and leggings, Lachie in black pants and white shirt. I just made them a big black cape each - just 1 metre of black fabric with a casing for the string to tie around their shoulders. Did the trick, one witch and one vampire and cost me $10AU for each child all up. They didn't look as cute as your girls though! Their costumes are so gorgeous!!!

I was just on the Poppytalk blog and saw that you won a little prize...see? Good things come to those who wait...and who truly deserve it. CONGRATULATIONS girl :D

After I dropped money for a pattern, white fabric, and the appliques, I spent way more to make it then to buy it. But... my mom made our costumes every year, so it feel wrong and polyesterish to buy them. I just wish I could have made my kids carry signs that said "Handmade Costumes" so they could have gotten extra candy for ME. :)

Their costumes are wonderful! I definitely think they are better than anything you could have bought.

Adorable little witches!

The quality of anything you make far exceeds what you can buy! If you want it to last you need to make it.

Your girls are so cute!

My mom always made our costumes growing up. Quality and price aside, it just meant so much to me--even more so looking back and knowing how exactly how much time and effort she put into it.

The costumes are really cute. Michael always sees a costume he likes and picks it out at the store. I usually throw them together until they have an opinion and beg for a certain costume.

These are just lovely! And I agree with all of the other comments - homemade is definitely better, even if you do have to spend more time and even money. No one else will have a costume just like yours and that is what counts! My mom always made our costumes growing up and it always made me feel super special, especially because she is so talented and our costumes were always super fabulous.

while we were at the fabric store picking out the perfect fabric, notions, and trim for a spectacular minnie mouse costume for my kindergartner, she turns and says to me, "mommy, wouldn't it just be easier to buy a minnie mouse costume?" "well, yes, probably, but mommy can't BUY costumes, she has to MAKE them." it seems simple to them, why isn't it simple for us? you have some adorable little witches, the costumes turned out great!

I know I could have found Ana a Tinkerbell costume for cheaper than I made hers, but they are so cheap looking, that I couldn't do it. Besides, I really LIKE making costumes.

It's hard to pay the price for the store costumes when you suffer from the "I can make that better for cheaper" syndrome like I do.

They look so cute Candace! My sister bought her daughter a cute (but not as cute as yours) witch costume from Cracker Barrel and paid about $25 which I think is a lot. So good job!

The cheap costumes LOOK cheap. And it is so wonderful to have something unique and made especially for you. I hope my kids grow up knowing handmade = love-made.

I also suffer from the "but I can make that cuter" syndrome. I think that some costumes are maybe not as cheap to make as they are to buy, but dang it if they arent cuter!
