Pregnant Barbie

This year for Christmas, we decided to have the girls buy a gift for each other.  We thought it would be a fun tradition to start & would get them off their thoughts of receiving just for a little bit.  So we took a trip to Toys R Us & split up when we got there.  Dylan took Sadie & I took Claire & we headed to opposite sides of the store.  Hoping to help the girls find something special for the other without getting caught by the other shopping team.

Claire & I looked through quite a few aisles before she spotted this pregnant barbie doll.  I must mention that this is an off brand doll.  Not a Barbie really.  She dropped whatever she had previously picked out for her sister & insisted on getting this pregnant doll, which came along with a dad, a little girl, a stroller & tons of little accessories.  She was on sale & priced just right & honestly I think she's awesome, so we took her to the register & brought her home for Claire to give to her big sister.

The girls have gotten tons of play time out of this thing.  They love it!  Check out all she does...Her big belly pops off & what do you know!  There's the baby.  Then you can take the little baby out & flip her flat belly back around.  Presto chango.

Plus she has a nice white bra & panty set.  So that's super awesome & it's particularly thrilling when I find her laying around with these hot pink exotic dancer like heels on.  She's amazing.

She also ended up in Sadie's writing journal for school.  I wonder what her teacher thought when she read 'pregnant barbie'

Anyway, there you have it.  Just a few adventures of pregnant barbie.  What do you think?  Awesome?  Or just too weird?

Queensland Flood Appeal Auctions

You've heard about the horrible flooding in Queensland, Austrailia right?  There are half a million people without electricity. 11,900 homes have been completely flooded with a further 14,700 partially flooded, many of which will never be habitable again. Brisbane, which is the third largest city in Australia is shut down. Businesses are closed, infrastructure destroyed, schools washed away.  So many families lives have been destroyed.

The amazing Toni Coward of Make It Perfect fame has brought together the crafty community with a charity auction.  100% of all proceeds go to the Queensland Flood Appeal.  Please go check out the master list of amazingly beautiful offerings.

Also, if you'd like to just make a monetary donation of some sort you can do that directly to the Queensland Government at this link.

Hip To Be Square

I'm cutting squares to be put into quilt kits which I'll be offering for sale in the shop in the next week or so.  It seemed like the logical thing to do with this fabric stash of mine that continues to grow faster than I can use it.

I don't use a rotary cutter.  I kinda hate rotary cutters.  I cut all my quilt squares by hand.  I kinda pride myself on how precise I can be cutting by hand.  It's quicker for me than using the rotary cutter.  I just use a piece of cardstock as my square size guide.  That's just what seems to work best for me.  How do you cut your quilt squares?

My Little One

She's not always open to hugs & attention & such.  Which I totally understand.  I'm the same way.  "Open" & "closed" are the words I use in my mind for the different moods.  There are times when we just need to be left alone & I've written more about that here

She's more open in the morning & more closed in the afternoon and evening.  I think I follow a similar schedule.  As a mother though I often have to open myself back up for my kids.  They need me to be open whenever they need a snuggle or attention & I am most times fine with opening back up.

This little one has an exception too.  She's always open for me as well.  She rarely pushes me away when I squeeze her little body tight & kiss her cheeks repeatedly & push my face into her warm neck.  I guess that's one of the perks of being her mother.  Our relationship is special like that.

I asked her the other day if I could just kiss her face all day long.  She thought that was a little bit overboard.  For now I'm taking advantage of her openness with me at this stage.  I realize that this little face will continue to grow bigger along with that body & mind & personality of hers, and one day she won't be so open & willing to let me cuddle her to death.

Thrifting Report

Last week was a great week for pyrex finds.  I found four pieces in really super excellent condition.  I am in love with the large blue snowflake bowl & the butterfly gold pieces are pretty great too.  I really like the shape of the crazy daisy piece as well.  They look like a happy little pyrex family.  :)

I acquired a few sheets as well.  The pink rose pattern is one I've had before, but used all up.  So I'm really happy to get my hands on another one.  My little sister found & bought the yellow plaid for me.  Isn't that the sweetest?  I am always excited to have plaids, stripes, polka dots, etc. to go along with all of my florals.

A little tip for finding good stuff at the thrift stores:  Go often!  I stop in at my closest Goodwill store at least once a week.  Sometimes twice a week.  It's easy for me to spot what's new & I can look over the whole store in about 15 minutes.  Your odds of finding treasures go up when you're able to check in often.
