Clothing The Little Guy

After finding out we were expecting a boy, I was really excited to start shopping for baby clothes.  But my excitement quickly fell flat when I realized that shopping for boy clothes is a whole new ballgame.  I couldn't believe that I'd go into a store with the intent to buy & leave empty handed!  Slowly, I've discovered a few go-to stores & now I have to tell myself to take it easy for a bit.

Oh the waiting.  Can't wait to see what the little boy that wears these clothes will look like!

P.S.  Fill me in!  Where are the great, affordable places to shop for the boys?

We go to Kohl's and shop the sale rack or wait until they offer 30% off in the mail. They have lots of Carter brand clothing!

honestly - I can't wait until the spring/summer for garage sales!! I find the BEST bargains around where I live (the Upper Penninsula of MI). I had a girl first 14 years ago and my 2 boys came around 3 1/2 and 2 years respectively! I thought I would never do the garage sale thing however -boys are way different and they are HARD on their clothes! So for the play clothes I don't mind buying second hand! I have been quite lucky in finding excellent quality things!!! Good luck!

I love zutano for my boy, but it can be pricey . . . I try to snag it at kids consignment sales. Old Navy and Kohls' jumping beans have high quality shorts that hold up to the boy action.

I love Old Navy, but my favorite is Crazy 8....such cute boy stuff!! :) crazy8.com

i just had my first (a boy too!) and thought i'd be discouraged at the lack of selection boys have (shopping for my niece is deadly for my bank account!) baby gap and old navy have been my big go-to spots, and i agree, crazy 8 is another fun place to shop! sometimes the baby section at h&m has some really cute/hip boy stuff too!

Welcome to the world of boys' clothes. It can be pretty difficult, actually. There are so many more clothes for girls at stores than boys - sometimes 2 or 3 as much! I like to go to consignment sales, but again, there will be several rows of girls' clothes and one of boys, so I come home with a few things. But I go regularly and I can do pretty well. As far as store recommendations, Target and Carters work great. Target has good clearance a lot of the time and I'm always on the lookout for adjusting waist pants.

My favorite is Kohl's. I have 2 boys and I get almost all their clothes and shoes there. If you get a Kohl's charge you get some awesome deals as well and can pay it off in store directly after you purchase. I usually save more than I spend there.

Crazy 8 (the subset of Gymboree) has really cute clothing. Also, try 77 Kids, the kids clothing line of American Eagle. Kohl's is pretty good for Carter's, but really, the Carter's outlet has better prices. Old Navy is one of my favorites for baby boy clothing, but seems to run a little bit small. Have fun dressing your little man!

I think you did a good job with the Old Navy stuff - I get onesies there a lot, too (actually have the star wars and blue and white striped one you showed above). I just find most of the boy onesies either boring or too cutesy, so I've taken to appliqueing my own (old timey moustache, radiohead album cover art, whales, etc.). I also make him pants with Rae's newborn baby pants free pattern. Easy, fast, and you can upcycle hubby's donate pile. H&M also has some good boy basics, if you have one around. Good luck, and I agree with you! Girls have so many more options.

i love shopping at the children's place, jcpenny's & old navy!

i do old navy & gap for jeans and for the non-cutesy lines (i can't stand having a monkey or truck embroidered on an otherwise handsome shirt), hurley kids, ben sherman kids, H&M, american apparel (the north outlets has one and i just scored a TON of stuff 50% off their already reduced prices), and target. i tend to spend a little more on nash's clothes than i do on haven's because good boy stuff is so hard to come by. but i also buy haven a lot more and nash wears his stuff into the ground so it needs to be better quality. handsome, non-cutesy, good-fitting boy stuff is SO much harder come by but its so fun when you find good stuff.

I'm laughing because Otis has almost all that you took a picture of! It is SO hard for boy clothes that don't have either sports or animals on it. Some of it's good but most of it can get pretty ugly...I like to have good cheap basics like pants and solid shirts and then add fun things like hoodies, fun tshirts, striped socks or babylegs. It will be easiest in the summer when it's just his bumgenius and a drooly smile!

that is so your boy's closet.

I like the preppy boy look so Children's Place is my all time favorite! Check out the outlets for awesome deals. I scored $1 polos once and bought enough shirts for my toldder for 2 summers! May sound crazy, but I got a lot of bang for my buck. I also love Old Navy.

Good luck! Boys are fun too!

crazy8! they have fantastic boys clothing, great prices, and SUPERDUPER sales! check it out...you will NOT leave empty handed! (someone above listed the website).

Congrats on the boy!!! My staples are Old Navy and Target. It's true, good boy stuff is harder to find at a decent price but I love Old Navy's graphic tees for the boys. I always do the sales at Children's Place too, but again not half as much selection as they have for girls. Good luck!

I'm prego with my 3rd boy, so i know exactly what you mean. There ARE cute clothes out there, but shopping isn't really a temptation for me. My husband always says we couldn't afford a girl & he is prob right, because I find myself glancing over at ALL OF THE GIRL clothes quite often!

Honestly...Walmart is my go to for boys clothes. They are so rough on clothes that I hate to spend more than $5 on a piece of clothing for them & I can find shorts/pants/shirts for under that price so I'm happy. They actually have a really cute selection too!

I also love Baby Depot, Target & JC Penney

You're right - it's totally different finding cute boy clothes! I think it's a bit more challenging, but there are definitely some great shops out there! 77kids is great, H&M has a fabulous kids section and of course GAP, Old Navy and Target always have good things. There are also some really fun shops on Etsy (bchildrenswear, laundrymonster, WeChooseJoy). I've seen alot of people recommend Crazy 8. We don't yet have one in MN but I look forward to checking it out someday! Have fun boy shopping!

My husband seems to find really cute boy things all the time. Unfortunately for him, we're having a girl.

When my boy was a babe I sewed many of his clothes especially loved the Weekend Sewing by Heather Ross book's pants pattern. Also, I got many of his baby onsie's at gap. Now that my boy is four...we get many of his clothes at Target...he is growing so fast and how hard he is on clothes it well worth it!

Zutano and Oilily, but only from thrift stores. Also vintage, vintage, vintage. I can't stand characters, sports, guitar stuff, branding or bland on my boy... So thrifting for unique stuff is my only hope.

Old Navy has great baby boy shoes. I've had lots of luck at Saver's but mostly for toddler stuff. Also Kohl's jumping beans line is good and often goes on sale so you can get good pants/shorts for $5.

It is hard to find cute things to dress your boy in especially because there is soooo much more for girls. I have really enjoyed making hime things. Pants and shorts are super easy to make. I like Old Navy, Baby Gap has some cute things. They are a over priced but I wait for the sales. I also saw some cute things in H and M.

target, walmart, old navy, ross and if I could afford it Gap. When they get bigger like 4 and up they are Really hard on clothes so I really don't like to spend a lot on them.

i love boy clothes. my oldest is a girl and then i have two more boys. the girl stuff is darling, obviously... but there is a lot of cute boy stuff out there too! and since you like to sew... my favorite is to buy the $3 shirts at walmart and applique them. it's not easy sewing for a boy, but the applique is a great alternative.

Im a fan of crazy 8 and gymboree... i just hit the sale rack and gymboree, otherwise they are a bit pricey for something the baby will only wear twice, if im lucky!
