On a Roll

Finished this page last night. I don't know about the pregnancy making me all crafty. Dylan says switching to 8.5 x 11 page size has liberated me. Plus we have no tv & with Dylan working nights or doing homework, I've been looking for things to keep me busy. In any case, I'm enjoying it. This week I got a big picture order in the mail & I decided to get right to scrapbooking while they're new & I'm excited about them.
Also, Sadie is making some huge progress with potty training this week. We're in no way out of the woods yet & I don't want to bore you with the details, but I'm very proud of that little girl. We'll keep moving forward with it. One thing to note is that we've added it to our nightly prayers to pray that the Lord will help her with this. Very cool.

Today Sadie & I will go Christmas shopping down in Idaho Falls. We are wearing a diaper for this outing. Not nearly ready for the 30 minute car ride & shopping with panties on. But it will be okay. It's also freezing outside. says it's 12 degrees this morning. I DO NOT like the cold. It basically sucks. Feeling really bummed for Ryan right now way up in Canada. Anyway, hope to have a fun day & feeling optimistic despite the cold. Brrrr.

Ohh. One more happy thing. I love the way the christmas tree lights shine through my dried orange slices. So very pretty.

Naked Genes & a Happy Blur

The snow finally came. Sadie sat in the window and watched it for almost an hour. Of course, as you can see in the photo....with no clothes on. This girl never has clothes on when we're at home...unless it's dress up clothes. My mom has told me many times through my life (& I've seen pictures) of my need to take all my clothes off when I was a little girl too.

A conversation from a couple of days ago:

Me: She has my naked genes, you know?

Dylan: Yeah. Well, it's a good thing that she has my smart genes too. 'Cause a girl can't get by in life with only naked genes.

Made me laugh. Love having a husband that makes me laugh.

And here is the page I completed last night. Kinda fun to try a little felt on a scrapbook page.

Holy Crap!

Is this really my belly?!?!! I was trying to take a few self portraits featuring by growing belly, this one kinda shocked me. Maybe it's the angle, I dunno. Part of this is my fatty parts that are there regularly (which I am mostly okay with). But I kinda think this is a pretty photo. I want that bump to be there. I want to look pregnant.

I'll hit 20 weeks in just a few days. That's half way through the pregnancy already!! How did that happen so fast. We'll find out in about a week & a half if we've got a little boy or a little girl in there. I'm so anxious! I'm not pulling for one or the other, just ready to know & be able to bond more with this little one....and think of names....and shop for clothes.....and make cute stuff.

I'll Be Your Bird

I just finished this purse today & I am so in love with it I want to marry it!!! It's a Christmas gift for Miss Sadie. Can I tell you how in love with felt I am! It was really fun to work with. The inspiration came from this magazine page pulled out from a Martha Stewart magazine. I think it was an article on embroidery. And here's a close-up of the stitching & bird detail. (Told you I have a thing for birds right now). The color is really off in this photo. I had planned on making this for Sadie's birthday, but I got sick. Now, it's finally done in time for Christmas. I hope she likes it.

O Christmas Tree

We got the tree all decorated a few nights ago. I'm glad we finally found a time to do it together as a family. Sadie has ornaments that are hers (ones that grandma's have bought for her) & she thinks that's pretty cool. A friend of mine stopped by and commented that I have a theme to my tree. A few years ago (when we were in our Vegas house) I did get/make a lot of new things for the tree with a "natural" theme in mind. I made ornaments out of pine cones & dried orange slices, and I bought berry sprigs & curly twigs to stick on the branches. I love our tree.

I also love, love, love the Christmas tree all lit up in the morning.

We're supposed to get a TON of snow today & tomorrow. Time to shut ourselves in & work on things around the house, I guess. Just worried about Dylan who has to travel 30 miles to work & back tonight. We'll see how severe the storm is.

Welcome Christmas Season

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving over at the Stoddard's home. I forgot to bring my camera, so not one photo taken yesterday. Oh well.

I went out shopping this morning & ended up coming back with NOTHING. It was very frustrating. We got too late of a start. We've been talking for months now about buying a portable DVD player (for car trips only) at the after Thanksgiving sales. So we came up empty. BUT we've found one online for a great price & all will be good. It's not fun being out there with all those people. I came home feeling so moody. Glad I decided to set up the nativity. I felt so much better & could relax. I love my nativity set. I love the size of it & I just think it's so pretty, but one thing I love the most is that Mary can hold the baby. I just think that's so special.

I've been wanting to replace the simple little stable for a few years now & almost bought a more substantial one a few weeks ago, but decided that this is just not the year. It will have to wait one or two more years. Even that small amount of money can be used somewhere else.

So, I'm very happy to welcome the Christmas season. Trying to keep it simple! I cannot believe my out of control urge to want to buy EVERYTHING for Sadie. So not cool.

Good Start to the Day

I decided to get up this morning & scrapbook. Glad I did. I love this page. I accomplished something fun. I feel better. Now I can get to work on all that other stuff I don't really want to do with a little more pep in my step.

Play Doh In the Morning

The grown up in me does not want to let the colors of the play doh mix. I have to tell myself that a 4-pack of the stuff only costs about a dollar. That I need to let her be a kid & do what feels fun. Let her create & experiment & be curious. But when she starts eating it, it's time to put it away.

And of course it's all done in her bright pink tutu which has a bare section because I ran out of tule when making it & have never bought anymore to finish it. She's happy with it the way it is. Dylan tells me I should finish it though. He thinks it looks strange. We don't want the dress up clothes to look strange. No way.

On another note, I am feeling more pregnant. Eating Tums daily. Wearing maternity clothes, or at least pants. Having a regular 2nd dinner. And feeling baby movements. All things which make me go....."oh yeah. I'm pregnant." Excited to find out the gender of the baby in a few weeks. Really getting curious about that.

Driving home from a church meeting last night, a Beetles cd playing, hearing the words: "nothing's gonna change my world". Got me thinking about all the change that will be happening in our lives here pretty soon with Dylan graduating in ONE MONTH!! It's amazing how very calm I feel about this. Not really any anxiety on my part. I don't feel like my world is going to change. My world meaning my family & the love I experience everyday with them. That goes with us wherever we go. As long as we're together, it's all good.

One thing I love: Dylan & Sadie in the morning, both with messy hair. I recognized that today. Wanted to record it. Just a little daily happiness.

Macaroni with Beef

I tried a new recipe last night that I found while looking through old issues of Martha Stewart Kids magazines. It was very well received so I thought I'd share.

Macaroni with Beef

8 oz. elbow macaroni
1 lbs. ground beef
1 cup finely chopped onion
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/4 tsp. chili powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper
2 cans (8 oz. each) tomato sauce
1-1/2 cups cooked frozen or fresh corn (I just used 1 can, drained)

Cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain, set aside. Brown ground beef w/ the onion. Drain; Add cumin, chili powder, salt & pepper. Stir in tomato sauce & corn. Cook until sauce comes to a boil. Remove from heat. Stir in macaroni. Serve warm.

We also made this garlic bread recipe with it. This is so much better than just sprinkling on garlic powder, which I usually do.

Garlic Bread

1 loaf french bread
4 Tbsp. unsalted butter, softened
2 small cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp. salt

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Slice bread in half horizontally. In small bowl mix butter, garlic & salt. Spread on cut sides of both bread halves. Reclose halves to form a sandwich. Wrap in aluminum foil. Bake 10 minutes. Switch oven setting to broil. Remove bread from oven & remove foil. Lay bread halves, cut side up, on a baking sheet. Place under broiler until butter bubbles & edges of bread start to turn brown, about 30 seconds. Let cool slightly then slice & serve.

I Am Getting Stuff Done Today....

Even if my hair's not done yet.

*Ordered photos from Snapfish for holiday crafting & etc.
*Working on the laundry. Even folding it when it comes right out of the dryer. Love Sadie climbing into the pile and saying "hot!"
*Picking up all toys. And I mean ALL. Nothing got picked up yesterday.
*Sweeping the floors & vacuuming. Getting rid of all the Maddy hair. At least for a couple days.
*I have a few primary duties that I have yet to get to, but I will.
*and of course I've been surfing the internet with our wonderful new high-speed connection. In doing so I found a new blog. Check it out here. She has a link to the pattern for the cool paper star ornaments she made & also shows a tutorial for her cookie sheet advent calendar. Thought some of you girls might be interested, Heather?

Baby Gift

I finished a receiving blanket & two burp cloths in this darling polka dot fabric. (I really love polka dots & stripes too) It's for my sister Amber, who is very stylish in such an easy, breezy, laid back kinda way. Does that make any sense? I thought the colors really fit her. She's also in the hospital at right this very moment delivering her new baby boy Crew Jackson. Love that name. Hoping all goes well & waiting to hear the news. We'll have to get this gift in the mail today.

And here's a pretty bad photo of Sadie with her little turkey craft we did last week. She was seriously grinning from ear to ear while we were making this. When Dylan got home she said "Look dad! My chicken. Feathers on it." See sometimes I am a good mom.

Sometimes I Feel Like...

*I'm saying the same things over & over everyday.
*I'm picking up the same stuff every day.

And I feel that way because I am & I am.
One of those days. Not feeling very cheerful. BUT I did start feeling the baby kick, so there's my happiness for today. Maybe I'll feel a little better tomorrow.

Now if Sadie could just stay out of the fridge, that'd be nice.

Owl & Kitty

Just got the Urban Outfitters holiday catalog in the mail today. Check out this super cute little guy.

And of course, Hello Kitty. She's just so darling.

I don't have to buy this stuff. I just love looking at all the decorations. Part of the fun of Christmas.

Getting a Little Excited Around Here

For Christmas, that is. Well, Sadie is excited for "crimpis" & I am excited for Christmas. We've been talking about Santa & singing carols....and we've been driving Dylan a little crazy. I even went so far as to ask him if we could put the tree up already. I don't know why I'm extra giddy this year, but I think it has a lot to do with Sadie. Kinda fun to relive it all though this little girl.

We went shopping this week & ended up buying our ornament for the year. (We buy a new family ornament each year. One of our traditions.) I'll post more about that once we get the tree up. We also grabbed this red bird ornament, which has a really long feather tail. It's cool. We both have a thing for birds right now & just couldn't resist. It's getting cold outside. We had a few snow flurries today. Just feels like time to shut ourselves in, eat yummy, warm foods & cozy up inside. I guess all of that just naturally makes me think of Christmas. Hmm.

And here is what Sadie looked like when she fell asleep for her nap: Dress up shoes & pink tutu. Perfect sleeping attire.

New Shoes

Yes. I am doing an entire blog post about my new shoes.

I just got these darling Keds in the mail yesterday, and I'm in love. They were a little more than I spend on shoes these days, but Dylan talked me into them & I know I'll get some good use out of them. They are so darling! Please excuse my dry skin in the photo. My favorite part: the adorable orange fabric inside. So cute!

Also, why are shoe boxes so cool? Dylan & I both kinda have this thing for them. He says it's the thought of filling them w/ stuff. I'd have to agree.

Sadie is really into books right now. She loves to sit on our laps while we read to her & as soon as the book is over she says "again". Well, sometimes she says "amen" instead of "the end".

We are big fans of Mo Willems around here. Ever since Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus. Dylan also bought me Knuffle Bunny for one of my birthdays & Sadie is quite fond of it also. We just checked out Leonardo, the Terrible Monster from the library. Sadie loves it.

Just bought this one that came in the mail today. It's cute. Sadie's pretty interested in it & I'm hoping it gets her more interested in potty training.

So, I'm thinking Santa may need to bring some books to Sadie this year. Any suggestions? What books do/did your kids just love @ this age?

Creepy Cabbage Patch

So when we were at DI the other night, I found this really messed-up homemade cabbage patch doll while looking on the toy aisle w/ Sadie. We had to take it over to the book aisle for Dylan to see & we all got a good laugh. Just look at this thing. Dylan says it has a burn victim's face. The body is all misshapen, fat belly, one foot bigger than the other, tons of uneven hair. This thing is a mess. I can't believe the maker of this actually donated it instead of sending right to the trash & can you believe the thrift store is asking $3.00 for it! Insane.

Anyway, it's kinda been a joke all weekend. Just out of the blue one of us will say "creepy cabbage patch" and we both just laugh. Best one was when Dylan was coming in for a kiss & I blurted it out. Hee hee. Well, naturally we had to go back there today & get a photo of this crazy thing. Hope you get a good laugh too.

Something Amazing

The so called scrapbooker actually completes a layout. It's nothing spectacular, and with being so out of practice I found myself, as Dylan puts it, "agonizing" over even such a simple page. But, I love these photos from Halloween last year & I think that 8-1/2 x 11 may be my new page size.

Dylan & found ourselves talking about all the stuff we want to make for Christmas. I guess we both have the holiday crafting bug. For his sake maybe I should say "creating" bug. We all know that he's the artist & I'm the crafter. That's a joke. Anyway, We've both got some really fun stuff in mind. I only hope that we can actually see the projects through.
Stopped at DI on Friday night & I picked up these trims in the sewing notions area. Thought they were pretty & cool & I hope to use them on some scrapbook layouts.

This & That

We had a fun Halloween. Best part about it was that we were all together as a family for all the festivities. We love so much that Sadie has a thing for pumpkins, cause Dylan & I do too. One thing I've never had to deal with before is the days after Halloween. I'm constantly hearing, "candy, mom?" from Sadie. I closed it up in the cupboard & she still knows it's there.

We started working on potty training. Sadie had been asking for a few days & I'm finally feeling well enough to deal with it, so we went for it. Didn't get too far. After peeing in her panties right after getting off the potty a few times she decided that she wanted her diaper back on. We've had a little more success today. She went on the potty once, but I'm not sure that she relieved herself totally & then her panties were wet almost immediately. I think it's going to be a slow process with this first one. Especially with her personality. She gets upset so easily when she's not in control & I really want it to be a good experience for her. Don't want it to constantly be a yelling match between the two of us, so I'm basically letting her make her own choices. At least for this first little bit, until she starts to understand how to control her body.

I swear I just did laundry the other day. ALL of it. So why does it look like THIS so soon after? Anyway, perhaps this can be a "Corners of My Home" photo. Just had the urge to photograph it last night. A little documentation....a glimpse of a part of this apartment we're living in for now.

And here's a shot of Sadie in the tub. Just liked it a lot. I've been taking photos on the fully automatic setting with the flash disabled. Feel like I don't know what I'm doing with my camera anymore. I need to spend some time with it & right now I'm just too tired.

Going along with being tired....I claim to be a scrapbooker, yet I NEVER scrapbook. I'm wanting to bad to do it right now, I just never have the time or energy.
