Link Love

Can I just share with you some super cool websites that have gotten me pretty excited this week? Good, thanks. Here they are:

Quilts. Okay. I'm getting ready to start on the quilt for the new baby. I've come across these great ones through the whip up site: Squares quilt & be sure to check out the back. Gorgeous!!! Also this beauty. I am totally in love with this quilt. The colors, the design. Just beautiful.

I came across Design Mom through a link from NieNie's blog, also a fun little read. Anyway, lots of great stuff to look at over there at Design Mom.

Seems like I had more to share, but that's all I can think of right now. Oh, well. Enjoy!

Randomness Galore

Now THIS is my kind of dinner! Pancakes with strawberries & whipped cream. This is what Sadie & I ate for dinner last night. Quite yummy. I have to say that this is the best on big fat pieces of french toast, but the pancakes were pretty good.

I got some really happy mail on Monday. My first present to open for the new little baby. Thanks to my wonderfully thoughtful friend Chanel. She made this gorgeous scrapbook for the new baby, but it's told from Sadie's point of view, which I think it incredibly cool. Thanks Chanel. You are awesome & you really made me so happy.

What has your weather been like? We got a lot of snow this week. The winds finally died down & we were able to get out & play in it today.

Have I told you how much I love my calling as 2nd Counselor in the primary? I was really nervous about this calling. Especially about teaching sharing time. I can't believe how much I enjoy it now. This photo is from our activity this last Saturday where I got to take the kids on a treasure hunt through the church. The treasure at the end being the scriptures & some chocolate gold coins.

I started up my very own etsy shop & just listed a couple more craft aprons. These ones are in the same fabric that I made mine in. This has been fun for me. Hope my little business venture does well.

Mommy Todd

Sadie told us this morning that she was "Mommy Todd" & then pointed to her chest. "These my bodies", she said. "bodies" are what she calls breasts. We then realized that she had two halves of plastic Easter egg under her shirt. Oh man...she's crazy.

As you can see from the only photo I was able to snap before my camera battery died, Mommy Todd was pretty crabby. This girl is a good actress because she was very true to the role she was playing.

Bean Bags

I have been feeling this intense need to make bean bags this past week. Sadie & I finally got around to it today. Why the need for bean bags? I have no clue! But we now have 5 happy new bean bags in the Todd home. Anybody know of any good bean bag games or activities?

This was a lot of fun for Sadie...filling the bags up with pinto beans....once again in the fancy red dress.

There's a Baby Coming...

and I've been on the lookout for the past couple months for an outfit to bring this little girl home in. Can I just tell you how much I hate newborn clothes. I hate the colors. I hate the roses & frills. Needless to say, I haven't been able to find anything that I love or even like quite a bit. If you know of any good websites to shop for cool newborn clothes, please help a sista out.

Now, toddler clothes on the other hand. So much that I would love to buy for little Miss Sadie Jane. There's so much cool stuff out there. And, on that subject, I did see this darling t-shirt at J.Crew today that I'm thinking of making my own version of.

Oh, and it's Easter dress time. Something I think is so fun as the mother or a girl, to be able to buy a foofy dresses for holidays (Easter & Christmas). But it's so hard to find anything good!

I've also been thinking about all the stuff I want for this new baby. I'm trying to decide if I want a bassinet or a pack & play to use for the baby's bed while she's tiny. I thought I wanted a moses basket, but now I'm not so sure. Kinda leaning towards a pack & play. Those are nice to have even when the baby is bigger...for travel, etc.

And, I've just gotta have a Bumbo. You know I'll be buying one of these when the time is right.

Any suggestions for some must have items when the baby arrives?

Bigger Overnight

You know how it happens...every now & then there are days when they just seem so much older & grown up than the day before. It just happens....overnight. We're having one of those days. Sadie is getting to be such a big girl.

She likes to color these days on plain paper. She knows exactly what she's drawing too. A car, a helicopter, a scary monster, a snake. (sounds like all boy stuff, can you tell she draws with her daddy a lot)

While we were driving in the car this morning we had this conversation:

Sadie: "Mom, where are we going?"
Me: "To the doctor's office"
Sadie: "I want to see fireworks
Me: "Well, there aren't any fireworks right now. We have to wait until the summer time, when it gets really warm outside."
Sadie: "Oh, the fireworks are sleeping. The purple fireworks are sleeping. The yellow fireworks are sleeping. The white fireworks are sleeping. Me like them!"

Sure babe, whatever explanation makes more sense to you.

She had to get a shot at the doctor's office but stopped crying as soon as they asked if they could get her a sucker. Later while I was getting her all dressed again she said to me, "Mom, that made me cry." And we talked about how it hurt but only for a little bit & how it helps her not to get sick.

And sometimes....just sometimes...when I tell her no & then give her a reason, she thinks about it & then says "alright".

3 Tiered Skirt

I made my first ever piece of clothing. This three tiered skirt for Sadie. I have been enjoying sewing a lot lately & there's so much I need to learn. I thought this would be a fun project. I did a few things that I never have before with this one. Including machine basting & gathering. The skirt is in no way perfect. In fact the shape is quite wonky, but I learned a lot & that's part of what it's all about, right? This was so much fun to make & despite having to pull out my seam ripper 3 TIMES!!!! I still had a lot of fun & the finished product makes me smile although it may be imperfect (especially when I see Sadie wearing it).

So there is a tutorial for these skirts here, and I used fabric designed by this cool lady.

Ravioli Soup

We had a really, really yummy dinner tonight & guess what! No meat.

Quick & Simple Ravioli Soup

1 (15 oz.) can diced tomatoes, undrained
1 (15 oz.) can vegetable broth
1/2 tsp. italian seasoning
3/4 tsp. minced garlic, dehydrated - (I used one clove fresh garlic)
1 (16 oz.) package frozen cheese ravioli (small)
1 zucchini
1/4 cup fresh grated parmesan cheese

Place first four ingredients in pot, bring to a boil & boil 5 minutes. Slice zucchini in half lengthwise & then slice thinly to make small pieces. Add ravioli & zucchini & cook until ravioli is done. Garnish with parmesan.

We ate it all gone! Doesn't make a whole lot which is great for our family, but if you have more mouths to feed you can add more vegetable broth - or double the entire thing. I made some bread sticks to go along with it. It was nice. Our bellies are happy.

9 Weeks....

(more or less) until this baby comes. Actually, There are 8 weeks & 4 days until my due date. Better get to work on that quilt, huh?

I am feeling huge, but my weight gain has actually been right on with my first pregnancy. Starting to feel really stretched out & puffy & getting a little more uncomfortable each day. Very irritable & very emotional.

I'm enjoying the baby's movements. I love that I can feel them inside & look at my belly & see it moving at the same time. Seems like this one is moving so much! It's my little secret that I enjoy so much. Paying for my groceries & I get a few kicks...nobody around me knows that my little baby inside is kicking. Reminding me that she's there, growing stronger & one day soon she'll join us.

We think that we've decided on a name. We were having trouble with a middle name, but think we've finally landed on something we like. We'll see if we still like it in a few months.

Not much more to report. I'm not in love with this picture of me, but then again, am I ever in love with pictures of me? Also, I had some dark put in my hair....gotta do that every now & then when it starts getting way too blonde. I'm liking it.

Toilet Paper Roll Bowling

That's what we're doing around here today.

Total cost = $0, just time saving up those toilet paper rolls.

Results = one pretty amused little girl.

As you can see from that second photo, Sadie hasn't really gotten the idea of rolling the ball. She just throws it at 'em.

Good Morning Friday

I really love making eggs & toast for my family. I always feel really good when I do this for them. Not sure why it is with this one little thing & not with all the other stuff I do for them each day, but I can't help but feel a little warm & fuzzy when I make them a hot breakfast.

Do you seem to have days when every single chore in your home needs to be done? I have these days quite often. This week I spent a few days out & about doing so much that there wasn't time or energy left for the housework. Plus, I seem to have lots of days where I decide that I just don't feel like doing I don't.

Well, yesterday was clean the house day, & everything actually got done! Today is a glorious day because my efforts are just on keeping it all up & enjoying it. There is that lurking doom though that it will all have to be done yet again. I really do hate chores. Not my favorite thing.

And now, a story about Miss Sadie:

Last night it took a little time for her to go to sleep. Kept hearing her moving around in her bed. When I could tell she was finally asleep, I got to work cutting out little squares of fabric for the baby quilt (yippie!). Went in to check on her before I went to bed & found the little one laying under her blanket with no clothes on. Completely naked. She'd taken off her jammies & diaper as well. Little stinker had been in there like that for about an hour & a half. Luckily she hadn't peed at all, so I just had to get her dressed again & put her back in bed. It's bad enough that she never wants to wear clothes during the day. Crazy kid!

Good thing I checked on her. Some nights I get myself in bed before I realize that I haven't peeked in on her & I'm just too tired to move. after this rambling of mom stuff. Back to the start of this post. What is it that you just love to do for your family?

To: Him * From: Me

I made Dyl this little chipboard album. There are 6 pages total & it's 4x6 inches. I used song lyrics that remind me of him & added some of my own notes. Also, got to use some scraps from pages that I tore from an Urban Outfitters catalog a while back.

***Check out a similar chipboard album made by Kelly for her daughter.

To: Me * From: Him

Dyl made me this charming little story book. Here are just a few pages. So sweet. I LOVE it!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Okay, I totally copied Jamie Waters with this idea. It was a lot of fun. I haven't done a photo shoot with Sadie in a long time. Hope you're having a happy day!

Want a Cookie?

I wish I could send some to all of you, but I guess they'll have to stay here in my kitchen & most of them will end up in my belly. I eat the most sweets in this family. I'm a junkie.

My mom has the best sugar cookie recipe. The almond extract is heaven. When I open that little bottle this rush of really yummy memories comes over me. Frosted heart sugar cookies for Valentine's, pumpkins for Halloween & cakes decorated with icing flowers. Yum.

Someone had a question about the file folder games, I thought it would be easiest to explain by posting a photo of one. I was able to fine these books at my local library. I just copied them, colored, cut out the pieces, laminated them, cut out the pieces again & attached with velcro. My little one really likes them & they are cheap!

I finished Dylan's valentine last night. I'm excited to give it to him & then to share a few pictures tomorrow. I'm so very happy with how it turned out.

My Back Hurts

I think that I tried to cram too much stuff into one day. I'm feeling it tonight. Right in my lower back. It doesn't feel very good to walk or stand up right now. I need to take it easy....but I also want to get Dylan's valentine done tonight. We decided that we wouldn't buy each other anything for Valentine's Day. In our initial talk we decided to make each other a card....I think he's gone a little further than a card...& guess what, so have I. I'm really, really excited. Are we two peas in a pod or what?

Poor Dyl has a nasty ear infection & I've been trying to help him stay on top of all the meds he needs to take. Good thing he wasn't scheduled to work today & hopefully he'll feel well enough to go tomorrow.

Back to WalMart today for his prescription. Only, this time hallelujah for the $4 generic prescriptions, as he isn't covered by insurance since he graduated.

Trying to get some stuff done around the house, for primary & for Sadie's play group tomorrow. Felt like I had a TON to we went outside to play in the snow. We got dumped on this morning. Sadie has been dying to get out there & play, but all the snow had been washed away by rain this past week. She slid down the slide at our playground & went flying off the end landing on her bum in the snow. So funny!

Came back in the house & made sugar cookies...because what would Valentine's week be like without heart shaped sugar cookies?

I didn't take any photos today. But hope to have some to share with you tomorrow...which I think is going to be just as busy of a day.

So, my back hurts. But it's from having a good time. So maybe I can't complain too much.

I'm Still Alive

Kinda took a bit of an unplanned blog break. Just wasn't feeling it. I wish I could say that I've done & accomplished lots of fun things this past week, but it just wouldn't be true. Sadie & Dylan have been feeling under the weather & I've been just plain tuckered out. Lots of fun things planned for this coming week, so I hope to get out of the slump.

Today is Dylan's birthday. We had a nice, quiet day as a family. Sadie & I decorated this cake for the birthday boy. Very impressive, I know. Our cake decorating skills are off the hook. No really, not very classy, I know. But it's ours & that makes it cool to me.

So happy to have this handsome man as my partner in life. He's the coolest person I know & my best friend.

Tuesday, February 06, 2007

Just thought I'd share...there are instructions on how to make a tutu over on the Kiddley website. This is just like I made Sadie's....except I made hers way fuller & then ran out of fabric & never finished the back. It's really quite cheap & a fun addition to the dress up clothes....if any of your girls like dress up as much as mine does.

A Little Overboard?

So, I've almost finished all of the file folder games. Just a few more to complete. When those are done, we will have a total of 15 file folder games in our house. Did I take it too far? I dunno. I'm kinda tempted to go back to the library & see if there are any more books that I want to copy some from. Trying to let it go though, so I can get on to other projects. Sis seems to be enjoying them & so that's cool.

I took Sadie to the doctor today, just to make sure she didn't have anything major going on with this sickness that's come up in the past few days. Turns out everything is fine. She just has a cold/cough.

Our conversation before we left:

Me: Should we go to the doctor today?
Sadie: Yeah!!! The doctor look a your belly.
Me: Nope. We're going for you this time. The doctor is going to look at you.

When we got into the exam room, I helped Sadie up on the table. She laid back & pulled her shirt up, exposing her belly. I kept telling her to put her shirt down, but she insisted that this is what was happening. She was sure that the doctor wanted to look at her belly button. I think she's pretty convinced that she has a baby in there, just like I do. It was all too cute.

Also, I hate Walmart so much! Even worse is the Walmart pharmacy. Always an ordeal. Always takes FOREVER! I tell myself never to even go to that stupid store, but then make excuses....cause I don't have many choices here in little ol' Rexburg. One day though, I will make the leap & I'll never go back into that stupid store again.

Trying to Beat the *Blahs*

I have felt SO TIRED. Sunday always does this to me. After getting everything ready for 8:30am church, teaching sharing time & then making dinner....yesterday's included homemade rolls...I'm just zapped. Yesterday I laid on the couch almost all afternoon & even took a good nap when Sadie went down for one.

Today, I'm trying to clean up the mess. Sadie has been sick & really clingy. I've lost all motivation on all my projects. Hoping this all only lasts for a few days.

So, a few things that have made me happy in the past few days:

* From the relief society newsletter this month...I think mine is the best :) Of course it is cause I have the coolest husband.

* Going to the cheap theatre to see Flushed Away with Dylan & Sadie. Sadie wearing her glasses through almost the whole movie.

* Making my mom's roll recipe & having them turn out pretty darn good!

* Listening to Cold Roses by Ryan Adams & the Cardinals. The album I've listened to WAY, WAY too many times, but still absolutely love.

* Coming up with an idea for Dylan's valentine. Just need to find time to make it!

* Sadie saying cute stuff like "me not wear my glasses evermore"....she has though. Funny how they formulate their language.

* Going to church by myself yesterday. I was totally able to listen, feel the spirit, and weep constantly like only a pregnant lady can. Happy to feel some promptings from my Heavenly Father letting me know that I don't need to fear. Everything will be just fine.

Flower Craft

Sadie & I did a little arts & crafts this morning & made some paper flowers on popsicle sticks. Yes, she is wearing her flower girl dress from my sister-in-law's wedding. This is normal. Every morning she wakes up & puts a dress on. When we leave the house she knows it's time to get into jeans & t-shirt & coat. Crazy kid.

Anyway, I just free handed these flowers, she colored them & then we taped them onto popsicle sticks. Pretty easy & she had a good time.

Do you guys love oilcloth as much as I do? I was packing Sadie's lunch for a playgroup today in this lovely little oilcloth bag that was purchased at Tesoros in Austin, Texas. It's actually the only oilcloth thing that I own, but I still love the material. Back when I was working, I used this bag to take my lunch every day. I like it. It is so happy & cheery.

I found this swatch at Oilcloth International. I think this would be so cute covering a kids craft table. That website also has directions for making cute baby bibs & lunch bags under the "project ideas" link.

And, this morning as I was making the lunch I remembered how my mom would write notes to us on our napkins sometimes that we'd find in our lunches that day at school. I recall one time my note was a poem....about my stinky feet. I can remember reading it & looking around at all the other kids that didn't have poems written on their napkins & I felt really loved. My mom....she's pretty cool. my blog surfing I found this that I think is pretty darn cool. I love the photo branch. Check it out.
