Saturday Song

I love Langhorne Slim. He's definitely, definitely one of my faves & I'm so glad we got to see him live when we lived in Cleveland.

Totally recognized his voice on Sesame Street's new version of Ladybugs Picnic too. So cool that they chose him. Made me happy. :)

Happy Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is really a holiday that I don't care for.  And I only feel slightly guilty for feeling that way.  It's just not my thing, I guess.  The boxed character cards from the store for two bucks work just fine for the kids school parties & I honestly feel proud of myself for not spending more money or time.  I admire other mothers that go to great lengths to make clever, unique, handmade cards with their kids.  Like I said, it's just not my thing.  I suppose my thing is laziness.  :)  Or perhaps it's I'm too busy with other stuff-ness.  Oh well!

Something I do care for though is garlands.  Why on earth do I love garlands so much?  Who really knows.  I made these small tissue paper pom poms (using this tutorial from zakka life) while watching Thursday night TV on NBC.  We are so happy that Parks & Rec is back on, but that new show, Perfect Couples is terrible.  Am I right?  Anyway, the pom poms seemed to go pretty quick & before I knew it I had a nice little pile of them.  They'd be great for party or wedding decorations.  :)

And the newest additions to my vintage linens stash.  Most of these were found by my sister that lives in Southern Utah.  Pillowcases for 10 cents & 25 cents.  Wish we had those prices here!

I hope your Valentine's Day is full of love & happiness.  We are having take out for dinner tonight, which has been our tradition for the last few years.  Hooray for a simple night at home.  :)

From the Archives - Valentine Garland

Sharing Some Love - originally posted on 1/18/07

I know it's a little early for this, but I had this craft idea in my mind & today Sadie & I executed it. So here's our Valentine's heart garland which is now hanging over our living room window. I'm quite happy with it. Happy with the time we got to spend together doing something & happy with the joy that it brought to Sadie. She has been staring up at it saying, "Sadie made that!". So cute. I hope that she does follow in her mom & dad's footsteps (and grandparents) and enjoys making things with her own two hands.

Sadie was 2 years old when we worked on this craft. We used some paper heart cutouts that were purchased at Target.  We glued on feathers, ric rac & rhinestones & colored with markers.  I punched holes in the sides of the hearts so that we could string them together using a ribbon.  We used dried macaroni noodles for spacers.  I still have this garland & I love it.  Reminds me of that apartment in Idaho, when Sadie was little & it was just me & her hanging out together during the days.  :)

The new camera arrived yesterday & I am feeling more complete.  Yes.  Life just feels like something is missing when I don't have a camera.  I am loving this 75-300 mm lens, although it looks like I'll need to snap the 18-55 mm back on for product photos.  It's all so good & exciting.

In the past year we have had to replace our computer, printer, sewing machine & camera.  All of the big tools needed to keep Sparkle Power (the shop) running.  At least we don't have to worry about them all breaking down for a while.

Yes, I love technology
Always and forever.

Giveaway - Just Be

Just Be Jewelry is super special to me because it's run by my sister Amber & her friend Jen.  They are the best of friends & super fun girls to hang out with!  A few years ago they formed Just Be Jewelry & have been making & selling fun hand stamped jewelry, bottle cap pendants & other goodies.

Today they are giving away a Lucky Fortune Necklace to one lucky Sparkle Power reader!  These are so cute!  Inspired by paper fortune cookie messages, the Just Be fortunes come stamped into a nickle silver bar & are attached to a silver ball chain.

Even cuter yet, the Lucky Fortune necklace comes in an actual fortune cookie packaged inside an adorable take out box.  The perfect presentation for gift giving!

You can choose from their list of suggested messages or even have your own custom made.  Love it!

Hi There

One of my goals this year is to get more photos with my family.  More photos with me & the people I love.  This means that I have to actually ask other people to take photos.  I will do it.

I will also try to remember to look a little more excited next time.  :)

My camera broke last week & I've felt a little weird without it.  We decided it was time to order a new one.  So I went ahead & purchased another canon digital rebel camera body.  Plus I picked out a new telephoto lens which I'm pretty excited to try out.

I got an e-mail yesterday informing me that my packages would take longer to arrive because of the inclement weather.  Boo!

It's still exciting to have something like that to look forward too.  I feel so blessed that we had the money to just purchase a new camera when we needed to.  It rarely works out like that for us.  :)
